Who controls your data
The data controller for this website is Halden Ridge Media Ltd, Marden Court, 27 Ashfell Street, Burley, Leeds LS4 2RN, United Kingdom. Privacy enquiries should be sent to [email protected] with "privacy" in the subject line.
What we collect
We collect two categories of information. The first is what you send us: if you complete the contact form, we receive your name, your email address, the subject you selected and the content of your message. If you email us directly, we receive whatever your message contains, including your email address and any signature block.
The second is technical information generated automatically when a page is requested. Our hosting provider records server log data including the IP address making the request, the date and time, the page requested, the referring page where one is sent, and the browser user-agent string. This is standard for web hosting and is used for delivery, security and diagnosing faults.
Why we process it and on what basis
Contact form and email data are processed to answer your enquiry. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in responding to correspondence, and, where you tick the consent box on the form, your consent. Server log data is processed on the basis of our legitimate interest in operating a secure and functioning website. Analytics and functional cookies, where used, are set only on the basis of your consent, given through the cookie banner.
Cookies and similar technologies
This site stores a record of your cookie choice in your browser so that the banner does not reappear on every page. Analytics and functional cookies are placed only after you accept them. Full details of every category, and how to withdraw consent, are set out in the cookie policy.
Processors and recipients
We use third-party service providers to operate the site: a web hosting and content delivery provider, an email service provider for the editorial inbox, and, where analytics cookies are accepted, an analytics provider. These organisations process data on our instructions under written terms. We do not sell personal data, and we do not share it with advertisers, federations, clubs or event organisers.
International transfers
Some providers may process data outside the United Kingdom. Where that happens, transfers are made under the safeguards available in UK data protection law, such as an adequacy decision covering the destination country or standard contractual clauses supplemented by the UK addendum.
Retention
Contact correspondence is kept for as long as needed to deal with the enquiry and any follow-up, and then for a limited period as a record of what was asked and answered — normally no longer than two years, after which it is deleted. Server logs are retained for a short operational period by the hosting provider. Cookie consent records last for the lifetime of the stored preference or until you clear your browser storage.
Your rights
Under the UK General Data Protection Regulation and the Data Protection Act 2018, you have the right to be informed about processing, to request access to your personal data, to have inaccurate data corrected, to request erasure, to restrict or object to processing, and to data portability where it applies. Where processing relies on consent, you may withdraw it at any time without affecting processing already carried out.
Visitors in the European Economic Area have equivalent rights under the EU General Data Protection Regulation. Residents of California have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended, including the right to know what personal information is collected and disclosed, the right to request deletion, the right to correction, and the right to opt out of sale or sharing. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined in that Act, and we do not use it for cross-context behavioural advertising. You will not be treated differently for exercising any of these rights.
Complaints
If you are not satisfied with how we have handled your personal data, you may complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, the United Kingdom's supervisory authority for data protection. Visitors in the European Economic Area may complain to the supervisory authority in their country of residence.
Children
This site is a general-interest publication and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If our processing changes — for example, if we add a new provider or a new form — this page is updated to reflect it. Material changes will be described at the top of the page.
